Content:
This class helps us to explore how and why the world works and what makes it run (energy). In our science curriculum we will study: Safety, Scientific Method and Measurement, Chemistry (Properties of Matter), Waves, Sound, Light, and Forces.

Grading:
Your grade will be based on labs, projects, daily assignments, quizzes, and tests. We will post your grades weekly in random order by your ID number in our rooms. Each assignment will be worth a certain number of points. Your grade will be found by taking the number of points you earned and dividing it by the total number of points possible. Then multiply that number by 100 to get the percent. You may also view your grades by entering the Pinnacle grading system through the link provided by the Sioux City Community School District's web page www.siouxcityschools.org

Grading scale:
SCCSD established scale.

Due Dates:
Each assignment will be due the next school day unless another date is specified. Assignments will be posted on the board and should be recorded in your assignment notebook at the start of each class. Homework serves two purposes: 1) it allows you to review the concepts covered and 2) it will help me to evaluate the needs of the class. If an assignment is late, you will receive a 0 for that assignment until it is completed. It must be finished within two weeks of the due date, and you will receive partial credit for the work completed. It is always your responsibility to get your work in on time and completed. Makeup Work: If a class is missed because of an excused absence, then it is the student’s responsibility to get all of the missed work in and completed in a timely fashion. Work can be obtained when the student returns or it can be picked up by a parent, guardian, or friend. Due dates for this missed work will depend on the number of days absent. Approximately 2-3 days for daily assignments and 5-7 days for labs, quizzes, and tests will be given. Attendance is very critical to success.

What you can expect from us:
We will be available to help. We arrive at school by 7:20 and leave around 3:15, but we very willing to set up a time that will work for both of us. We will make every effort to be prompt in correcting tests and returning them to you. We will make the classroom a safe place for you to be an active participant.
